Note to Matlab users. A number of people write to me asking for clarification about the use of Matlab tools for the skew-normal distribution and related ones. The basic thing to say is that I do not use Matlab or Octave. An early version of my R code has been ported to Matlab by Nicola Sartori in 1999, when the R package did not yet include tools for the skew-t distribution. After that, Nicola has not updated his porting when subsequent versions of the R code have appeared. In 2008 a set of routines to deal with the skew-t distribution has been written and made publicly available by Enrique Batiz. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide support for the existing Matlab code. All I can do is to interact with people that intend to port the forthcoming version 1.0-xy of the R version to Octave; this R update is due to appear soon. The sort of interaction which I can provide is clarification on the working of the R version and on the theoretical aspects, not writing Octave code for which I do not have the competence. If somebody is volounteering to undertake this job and likes the idea of this interaction, please contact me. Adelchi Azzalini December 2013
